Specialist solutions for product filling and packaging
The filling and packaging industry plays a vital role in protecting products, extending shelf life, and ensuring goods reach customers in perfect condition. Chemicals and gases are central to many of these processes, particularly in the food and beverage sector where freshness and safety are critical. Blended Products supplies a dependable range of gases and additives designed to support packaging operations across the UK.
Nitrogen is widely used in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), where it is injected into packs to displace oxygen. By creating a protective environment inside the packaging, nitrogen helps preserve texture and flavour while keeping products crisp and fresh. This is especially valuable for snacks, baked goods, and other foods that are sensitive to oxygen exposure.
Sulphur dioxide is an essential ingredient in wine production, used as both an antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. It prevents spoilage, protects colour, and extends shelf life by stopping microbial growth and slowing the browning process. Its use in packaging and bottling helps ensure that products remain consistent from production through to the consumer’s glass.
Carbon dioxide also has a key role in packaging, particularly in combination with nitrogen in MAP systems. It helps inhibit the growth of bacteria and mould, making it an effective tool for extending the life of meat, dairy, and ready-to-eat foods. CO2 is also used directly in beverage filling and dispensing, ensuring carbonation and quality are maintained.
At Blended Products, we provide nitrogen, sulphur dioxide, and carbon dioxide in a range of supply formats to suit both small scale producers and large industrial packaging lines. Backed by ISO 9001:2015 certification and strict quality assurance, we deliver safe, reliable, and consistent supply across the UK. Our technical team is on hand to advise on applications and handling, ensuring packaging operations run smoothly and efficiently.
