Case Study: Thermablend TX
Thermablend TX is a non-hazardous heat transfer fluid for renewable heating systems and is the glycol of choice for renewable energy system specialists, The Energy Smart Group. Due to its market leading properties, Thermablend TX has supported our client in achieving faster installations, delivering an impressive coefficient of performance (COP). Continue reading to find out why Thermablend TX is recommended by Ben Barrett of The Energy Smart Group.
Challenge
The Energy Smart Group, specialists in renewable energy systems, were facing difficulties when mixing glycol fluids through their heat pumps due to the high viscosity of the glycol. To effectively mix the glycol into the heating system, our client would often have to use a pump station costing them valuable time.
“At The Energy Smart Group have been installing heat pumps since 2011 and have used many different glycol brands during that time. From an installation point of view, one of the challenges we usually face when using other glycol products is mixing it into the system so it doesn’t sit at the bottom of the radiators. This usually results in us using a pump station to mix the system water, making it very time consuming.” Ben Barrett – The Energy Smart Group
Solution
We supplied our client with Thermablend TX. With its low viscosity, Thermablend TX mixes easily into the system water for faster installations. Within 1 hour of running the heat pump, Thermablend TX had fully mixed into the system, eliminating the requirement of a pump station.
“After using Thermablend TX, we found this process much easier due to its very low viscosity. We didn’t even require the pump station to mix the rest of the system water. Thermablend TX had fully mixed within 1 hour of running the heat pump and all radiators were hot throughout. We also didn’t see any reduction in flow rates after installing the Thermablend TX either, which we were particularly impressed with.” Ben Barrett – The Energy Smart Group
Benefits
• Thermablend TX mixes easily, reducing installation time
• Thermablend TX results in reduced parasitic pumping loads
• Better thermal conductivity than mono propylene based glycol fluids.
“Thermablend TX is also non-hazardous and biodegradable, so from an environmental standpoint, that was a big tick for us as a company when choosing this glycol fluid.
The performance of the Ebac unit we feel has certainly been complimented by Thermablend TX, and we’ve been very happy with the coefficient of performance (COP) seen over the last few months. In February we achieved an impressive 6.06 coefficient of performance (COP).
We will look to install Thermablend TX in all our installations now.” Ben Barrett – The Energy Smart Group
