Independent case studies

Bradford City Council

The performance of SafeSol’s Delta-T was trialled in the heating system of the City of Bradford Metropolitan Council building Britannia House. It is a large Victorian building with 7-storeys that houses council offices: including Environmental Health; Council Tax; Housing Benefits; and Planning and Building Control.

Delta-T was installed in the system at a rate of 1 litre Delta-T to 100 litres of system water volume. 200 litres of Delta-T were added to the system between midday and 3pm on Thursday 23rd November 2023. There was no chemical clean up of the system prior to the installation of Delta-T. The installation of Delta-T occurred prior to a week of very cold weather.

Durham St Johns Contact Centre

Seaham Library has two Viessmann Boilers CIB 200 that supply underfloor heating throughout the building. The underfloor heating is constructed of polyethylene pipes. The total system volume was calculated at 2200 litres from a drawing provided by Durham Council. The Durham Council had made several changes to the way the system operates by adjusting BMS settings and decided to add new formulation Delta-T as a final energy reduction measure.

 

Delta-T was installed in the system at a rate of 1 litre Delta-T to 100 litres of system water volume. 22 litres of Delta-T were added to the system on the 15th of February for optimum energy savings. Water quality samples were taken prior to and after the addition of Delta-T.

 

 

How to dose your system

Measure the system volume as accurately as possible. 1 litre of Delta-T is required for every 200 litres of system volume. Delta-T can be added via a dosing pot, or a system drain valve. Ensure that adequate time is allowed when mixing through the dosing pot. Delta-T mixes easily with system water.

What is the return on investment, or payback estimated at?

The typical payback or return on investment is between 3 months and 1 year. The payback will also depend on the cost of energy. This short payback period makes Delta-T the most attractive of any of the ‘green energy saving technologies’ available on the market today

Will Delta-T work in an old dirty system?

Delta-T works at the interface between water and metal and will still work on metal with deposits or corrosion. A system that has dirty surfaces can be up to 30% less efficient than a perfectly clean surfaces. The addition of Delta-T will reduce the energy use of both systems by 25%. This might mean that the old system will behave like a clean system. The clean system will save 25%.
There are several techniques available for cleaning up old systems. Cleaning the system and adding Delta-T will maximise energy savings.

What is the dose rate of a typical household?

A typical heating system in a UK, 3-bedroom, house is around 100 litres so 1 litre of Delta-T or 0.5 litres of Double Concentrate would be sufficient.

My boiler is already 95% efficient, how can you claim 25% savings?

95% efficient means that 95% of the energy generated in the boiler is transferred into water. Water is used as the circulation fluid in heating systems because it is inexpensive, inflammable, safe and conducts energy. Because of its inability to adequately wet surfaces it is not very thermally conductive. Delta-T will extract more energy from the boiler or compressor and transfer more energy from the radiator or fan coil. This means that less energy is used to heat the water.

How do I add Delta-T to my system?

Delta-T can be added in 3 ways to a domestic system.
